KU Rector Prof. Dr. Artūras Razbadauskas highlighted the responsibility to further strengthen the university’s scientific potential and its impact on regional and international development. According to him, the decision to establish a university by the sea enabled Klaipeda to become an important center for science and innovation in Lithuania, and allowed the university to grow steadily — both qualitatively and quantitatively.
Vice-Rector for Science and Innovation Assoc. Prof. Dr. Laura Šaltyte-Vaisiauskė emphasized that over 35 years, Klaipeda University has become one of the country’s most important centers in the fields of marine research and marine technologies. These areas are closely aligned with the vision of sustainable coastal development, while participation in the European University Alliance EU-CONEXUS provides more opportunities for international cooperation and academic mobility.
During the meeting, participants reviewed KU’s 35-year development, major achievements, and future goals. The Rector presented KU’s scientific research and projects significant not only for the region but also for the international community. Prof. V. Landsbergis showed interest in the university’s cooperation with Klaipeda University Hospital, its marine research, and KU’s research fleet. Considering the current geopolitical situation, it was emphasized that KU’s research vessel Mintis and the expertise of the university’s scientists can contribute not only to solving ecological challenges in the Baltic Sea but also to strengthening regional security.
The meeting was marked by a special coincidence — this year, KU begins its 35th-year commemoration events, while Prof. Vytautas Landsbergis celebrates his 93rd birthday. On this occasion, the university leadership congratulated the professor on behalf of the entire community, wishing him good health and creative energy.
