Yesterday, the scholar was congratulated on this significant achievement by the Rector of Klaipeda University, Prof. Dr. Artūras Razbadauskas, joined by the Director of KU BRIAI, Prof. Vasilijus Safronovas.
The decision of the Latvian Academy of Sciences represents international recognition of E. Vasiliauskas’s scholarly contributions. He was awarded the degree of Doctor of Humanities in 2008. He completed his undergraduate studies in history at Klaipeda University, obtained a Master’s degree in archaeology at Vilnius University, and pursued doctoral studies at Klaipeda University and the Lithuanian Institute of History. Since 2011, E. Vasiliauskas has been working at KU BRIAI; his academic profile is further enriched by museum work and leadership of a cultural institution.
A special place in the scholar’s professional career is occupied by his close ties with the Latvian academic community. E. Vasiliauskas participated in exchange programmes at the University of Latvia (1999–2000, 2005–2006), completed research fellowships at the Institute of Latvian History of the University of Latvia (2017–2018), taught as an Erasmus+ lecturer (Daugavpils University, 2019; University of Latvia, 2022–2023), and has been invited to serve on dissertation committees in Latvia. He is fluent in several languages, including Latvian, and his research consistently focuses on the historical and cultural connections between Lithuania and Latvia.
Klaipeda University is proud that Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ernestas Vasiliauskas has become, in a sense, an ambassador of Latvian science in Lithuania. This recognition provides new momentum for partnerships between KU and Latvian research institutions, strengthening joint research projects, academic exchange, scholarly publications, and broader scientific cooperation across the Baltic region.
